Meet CodyFeet

See the photostory to meet CodyFeet, un unplugged activity of our EuCodeWeek Ambassador, prof. Alessandro Bogliolo.
We did this activity in the first classes of our Primary School, as a preliminary activity to CodyRoby.
Due to weather alert we did it today.

Primary School No. 4 in Chełm, Poland - European Quality Label

In the last school year, our school took part in the international educational project "Master Coding". The assumption of the project was to exchange ideas for interesting lessons from the basics of coding and programming, learning about different coding applications and running a shared blog. During the holidays, we were happy to hear that the school received the National Quality Label. Today, the joy was even greater because our work was appreciated by the Central Office of eTwinning. We received a message saying:
Congratulations! Your school has received the European eTwinning Quality Label for great work in the "Master Coding" eTwinning project. This means that your work, the work of your students and your school has been assessed as representing the highest European level.
Such words added a new enthusiasm in the implementation of this project in the current school year.

Clothes in code

We are learning the names of clothes in English, that's why we used the CodyRoby cards and grid to search and encode the letters of the names.
We have also used the app of the "Diario del Coding" of our CodeWeek Ambassador Alessandro Bogliolo to check our codes.

Today we learn a different way to code and decode images using arrows.
We add a new activity in the EuCodeWeek map and we use our CodeWeek4All code.

Family coding

Mind the colours

A very simple activity with first graders.
Learning names of colours in English through Coding and Mind.

Mind the grammar

This is an activity made during EuCodeWeek for another eTwinning project.
I did it with my fifth graders and I want to share it with you.
We are learning the verb "to be" in English (affirmative, negative and interrogative forms), and even grammar can be very engaging  using Coding and a little robot.

Binary numbers

ICS "G.Verga - Scordia - class 5A with teacher Grazia Valenti

This activity was made following the lesson plan:  "Count the dots" - CSunplugged

Data in computers is stored and transmitted as a series of zeros and ones. How can we represent words and numbers using just these two symbols?

We first prepared a set of five cards to be used as demonstration cards.

Then we discussed about the number of dots in the cards: each card had twice dots of the card to its right.

Then we used these cards to make numbers by turning some of them face down and adding up the dots that are showing.

When a binary number card is not showing, it is represented by a zero. When it is showing, it is represented by a one. This is the binary number system.

Then we started playing with binary numbers, writing numbers in binary code, even our birthdays.

EuCodeWeek

Very engaged in European Code Week.

Finally this year I and Marzia Trumino managed to involve a lot of colleagues of our school in the European Code Week. Sometimes we just gave an idea to our colleagues, sometimes we prepared for them a lesson plan, hopefully all of them will continue using Coding in their teaching practice.
